Bursaries

The CGHA is pleased to offer two bursary opportunities to CGHA players who are graduation this year and moving on to post secondary education.

2025 Brian Tardiff Education Bursary

The Brian Tardif Education Bursary is presented annually to a senior graduating player of the Cornwall Girls Hockey Association who is in her final year of secondary education and will be entering a post secondary institution. The bursary is a one-time award provided by the CGHA.

Brian Tardif was a long time volunteer with the Cornwall Girls Hockey Association dedicating twenty- two years at the local, regional and provincial levels. Brian's contribution was felt behind the bench as a coach and manager and at the executive level as Treasurer, President and Past President of the CGHA. At the regional level Brian was the District Representative and later the Director for Eastern Ontario at the OWHA level. Brian spent many years traveling to Toronto volunteering his time at the OWHA Provincial Championships.

Despite a diagnosis of ALS Brian continued to contribute his precious time with the Association and OWHA in various capacities and was always available for expert counsel.  Although Brian passed away in 2016 at the age of 61, his contribution to the sport of girls hockey will always be felt.

In memory of Brian Tardiff, a bursary of seven hundred and fifty dollars ($750.00) will be awarded to a player pursuing educational opportunities at the post secondary level.

2025 Suzanne Hickley Award

The Suzanne Hickley Award is presented annually to a graduating or senior member of the Cornwall Girls Hockey Association who demonstrates outstanding community involvement as well as strong dedication to the continued growth of girls hockey.

This award is named after Suzanne Hickley, a mother of twin girls who played hockey for the CGHA. A diagnosis of breast cancer was not enough to keep Suzanne from supporting her daughters at the rink or in the community. Her quiet demeanor and contagious smile was always present. Suzanne was an example of one who never put her life on hold despite the presence of cancer. She was a true inspiration to all who knew her.

In memory of Suzanne Hickley a bursary of seven hundred and fifty dollars ($750.00) will be awarded to a player pursuing educational opportunities at the post secondary level.
